TJ’s review: 10 out of 10
My review: 2 out of 10
I was really disappointed by the Miami Children’s Museum because it didn’t seem to offer many attractions. We did the whole thing in about two hours, and the kids didn’t want to return (and didn’t have a fit leaving). There appears to be only one rotating exhibit, so there is no reason to have a season pass.
They have one slide on the first floor in the Castle of Dreams, but there were not many active attractions to get the kids tired. They spent time on both floors, but the kids didn’t love any attraction and seemed to float between the areas. They were more excited about eating at the Subway than playing inside.
Attractions
I liked the stairs that played music as you walked up and down, but the rest of the place was boring for parents. The Carnival Cruise Ship area was a big advertisement for the company, but the kids seemed to enjoy the theater area. It was small, but they wanted to play with the puppets. They also had a small exercise area, but there were so many kids’ groups that my kids didn’t get to play much on the few machines.
The Publix supermarket (another advertisement) was the most popular attraction because it had a working scanner with the different sections included. They spent most of the morning playing in the supermarket (even though they hate going to the real supermarket).
The other attractions included the Bank, All About Art, Construction Zone, Multi-Sensory Room, Music Makers Studio, My Green Home, Ocean Odyssey, Pet Central, Port of Miami, Safety Zone, Sketch Aquarium, and South Florida and Me. The gift shop was cramped and had nothing to buy, and few items had the name of the museum.
Admission price/extras
Mt. MichiMu is a climbing wall, but it cost $4 extra (and was not available when we went). Admission costs $22 per person or $15 for Florida residents. There is an all-access pass that includes Zoo Miami and Miami Children’s Museum, which costs between $81 to $211 for multiple attractions (it even includes some Orlando attractions). Be warned that you have to pay for parking by the hour. Every third Friday of the month has free admission from 4 to 8 p.m., but it likely will be busy (and not much fun to enjoy the attractions).
They also have Sensory Saturday where the lights are dimmed and the shows are modified for those with sensory disorders. I would skip this place and hit the Miami Zoo. See TJ’s review of this attraction.
